Pet Health Tip: Dental Diets

February is National Pet Dental Health Month!

Pet Dental Health Tip:

As soon as your pet reaches maturity at the age of twelve months, start using a Dental Diet.  It acts as an excellent regular maintenance diet in addition to helping keep your pet’s teeth clean.  Dental diets decrease tartar build up by several methods. One method is mechanical. The food pellets are larger, harder, and when bitten by the tooth these pellets do not shatter like regular dry food, but stay intact longer scraping off the plaque from the tooth. Still other diets bind the calcium to prevent its deposition on the tooth and help to prevent tartar accumulation. – Tanya St-Germain, CAHT
